There’s Time to Talk at Gummers
6 February 2025

Local greengrocers Gummers of King Street donate their annual staff tips to Derbyshire Mind to support mental wellbeing on national Time to Talk Day.
Gummers of King Street in Belper are donating £150 in staff tips to mental health charity Derbyshire Mind. The staff all saved up the tips they received from customers throughout 2024 and decided to use it to help people struggling with their mental health this winter.
The donation celebrates Time to Talk Day, the nation’s biggest mental health conversation. Time to Talk Day takes place on 6th February 2025 and is run by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness. The day is all about friends, families, communities and workplaces coming together to talk, listen and change lives by having conversations about mental health.
Gummers are an integral part of the local community and people come in to the shop for more than just their fruit and vegetables. Managers Ryan Cooper and Steve Wanford told us:
“We know a lot of our customers by name and they often come in just for a chat with our friendly staff. Gummers is based in the heart of Belper town centre and provides a local hub for people to come together and talk in a way that they may not feel comfortable with in larger retail outlets.”
Derbyshire Mind Trustee Gavin emphasised that this can be a difficult time of year for those struggling with their mental health and that donations from local businesses are crucial in funding mental support services. Receiving the donation on behalf of the charity Gavin said:
“The winter months can have a negative influence on mood and motivation and can make it difficult for people to keep up with their mental wellness habits. Donations such as this enable us to provide vital mental health services for those struggling with their mental health as well as funding our community based activities and groups.”
